Way Finding Agrigento was donated on 7 June 2017 by the Lions Club Agrigento Host to the City of Agrigento on the occasion of the celebration of the first Centennial since the foundation of Lions Clubs International.
The objective pursued is to contribute, through the donation, to the development of the City.
The implementation, with a view to shared strategic planning, has seen the contribution of the various institutions of the territory: the City of Agrigento, the Superintendence of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Agrigento, the University Territorial Center of the Province of Agrigento, the Archdiocese of Agrigento, the Archaeological and Landscape Park of the Valley of the Temples and the Valley of the Temples Tourist District.
The project consists in the planning and implementation of a system that allows a better use, knowledge and enhancement of the urban fabric and historical / artistic emergencies of the historic center.
The idea aims to trigger the recovery of the identity dimension by the inhabitants and also acts as a lever to activate an economic induced and to encourage cultural tourism.
The guide that has been designed allows citizens, tourists and simple patrons to choose pedestrian paths that lead them to know, visit and appreciate the historical fabric with its monuments, churches, museums, points of interest and panoramic views: the identity of the historical center of the city.
The system is based on a series of different levels of elements, both in physical format (with mapping of paths and sites, captions and signaling indications) and digital (through the use of QR codes that connect to the dedicated database contained in this website).
After having studied at length the criticality and potential of Girgenti, a structure has been designed that supports panels containing indications that allow visitors arriving in the city (by car, train, bus) to have:

  • a clear picture of n. 3 routes (a “short” route, a “long” route, a route dedicated to Pirandello) and the relative travel times, plus additional thematic routes (art and faith, rabato);
  • a simple and intuitive guide to reach the various sites;
  • essential information in graphical and didactic format on the sites and points of interest;
  • easy access, via smartphone, to a database that can be implemented with historical / architectural / landscape and current information on each route, on individual sites and on scheduled events.

The project, as planned and implemented, can be easily implemented and improved in the future on the basis of specific needs that may arise.

Other institutions will be able to come together to make their own contribution, consistently with the inclusive character of the project and its finalization in favor of the City.
